About the Challenge
Morbi leo risus, porta ac consectetur ac, vestibulum at eros. Integer posuere erat a ante venenatis dapibus posuere velit aliquet. Duis mollis, est non commodo luctus, nisi erat porttitor ligula, eget lacinia odio sem nec elit. Sed posuere consectetur est at lobortis.
Why this Challenge?
To connect building simulation practitioners and developers with the latest promising new research projects.
How We Do It
We invite researchers, practitioners, students, and teachers in building performance simulation to share their work in video form. Our panel assembled by the International Building Performance Simulation Association (IBPSA) curates and tags submissions. We recognize the most innovative projects with features in IBPSA's newsletters and social media, webinar opportunities, and annual awards.
Who are We?
The Next Big Ideas Challenge is hosted by the Research Committee of IBPSA-USA. Our group is made up of leaders in building simulation from industry, academia, and government. We share a passion for research, development, and dissemination of new ideas, methods, and tools for the building performance simulation community.
Why Watch Research Videos?
It's easy to miss out on the latest research in new and exciting simulation methods, workflows, and tools. Research videos are short, easily digestible, and can help connect you with cutting-edge researchers in your field.
Learn about and understand new research developments, even if you don't have time to attend conferences
Identify new trends and opportunities in industry
Connect and collaborate with researchers working on relevant topics
Recognize innovative projects with our "Simulators' Choice" award
Why Make Research Videos?
Research videos are short, shareable, and memorable. Few people have time to digest journal and conference papers, but insightful videos can increase interest in your work and attract readers and collaborators.
Exhibit your work to a wider audience through social media
Gain recognition as a trend setter or industry thought leader
Connect with practitioners, software developers, and others
Be recognized by industry leaders through awards and opportunities for webinar presentations
What Makes a Good Video?
Research videos will be judged on the basis of:
Originality and novelty
Relevance and significance to current gaps in industry and practice
Presentation and clarity
Preference will be given to submissions that include links to websites that allow for reproducibility. These sources may include descriptive project websites, freely available papers (including ResearchGate and the IBPSA website), and code (including GitHub repositories).
How Can I Share?
We encourage you to like and share the videos posted by others on our site. Whether sharing through the social media links or passing them around your office, sharing helps connect others with new ideas and innovations.
How Can I Contribute?
Contributing research videos is simple. Use this form to upload your video and information. You'll need:
An original video about your research (maximum 3 minutes)
An abstract describing your research (maximum 200 words)
A featured image or graphic (minimum resolution 1280 x 720 pixels)
What Research Can I Share Here?
Anything related to simulation of the built environment. For example:
Building Information Modelling (BIM)
CFD and air flow
Commissioning and control
Daylighting and lighting
Developments in simulation
Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC)
Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ)
New software development
Simulation to support regulations
